Work to repair a burst water main that has left streets partially submerged has entered its second day.

Thames Water said the pipe on Abbey Road in Oxford burst at 16:30 BST on Thursday - leaving some homes without water.

It said repairs were "ongoing", adding that water supplies had been restored to nearby properties and pressure expected to return to normal on Friday.

Nearby streets were also left partly flooded, with Thames Water saying it was ing those affected.

A spokesperson for the water company said its engineers had arrived "promptly on site to assess the situation" on Thursday afternoon.

"The supply interruption was minimised, however, customer representatives are on site to those affected by flooding and to deliver bottled water to properties still experiencing issues," the spokesperson added.

Abbey Road lies just off the busy Botley Road, part of which has been closed since April 2023 while upgrade work is carried out to Oxford railway station.
